On November 12 and 13, we had the pleasure of attending the Presale Training Days of the OpenText EIM solution, held at Ilunion Atrium Hotel.

During the sessions, we were introduced to the new functionalities of each of the pillars of OpenText Enterprise Information Management.

CIM-ECM, as a Silver Partner and as usual, was present, to be able to keep up to date with the latest developments in the OpenText EIM solution and thus be able to advise the best and most advanced solutions to our customers. We are preparing them to make a difference with the competition.

December 12

We were convoked at nine in the morning, and after half an hour to register while they offered us coffee and pastries, the Conference began.

News and OpenText strategy

OpenText remains recognized as a leader in content service platforms for the 15th consecutive year. Among the criteria to remain a leader is its extensive and experienced ecosystem of partners (that’s us!).

It is also essential that this is the first year that OpenText is also considered a leader for its cloud solutions.

If there is a word that defines the OpenText strategy of recent times, that is Cloud.

OpenText Cloud offers solutions that cover the entire spectrum of information management, from infrastructure to business applications, through horizontal services.

It should be noted at this point that recently, OpenText expands its strategic partnership with Google Cloud. With what customers can hire, OpenText solutions on Google infrastructure, with a single SLA, OpenText.

OpenText is currently dedicating most of its effort to the containerization of its applications in the next relay, which will be in Q2 of 2020, the Cloud Edition (CE) release.

Summing up and simplifying it a lot, it can be said that containerization is similar to the creation of virtual machines with applications. Still, it is only the application that is packaged, along with its dependencies. Independent of the operating system.

This provides significant advantages:

Reduction of resource costs: efficient exchange of standardized OS implementations.

  • Self-sufficient: the containers contain applications and all their dependencies (operating system packages, libraries, base software …)
  • Portable and open source, industry-standard leaders, extensible API design with enterprise tools ecosystem.
  • Infrastructure as code: everything is defined as text files that can be versioned. The infrastructure can be automated by code.

Why containerize?

At mid-morning, we stopped to make a coffee break where we could enjoy some food and chat with other partners and OpenText staff and o we saw OpenText capture solutions:

OpenText capture solutions

Nowadays, when we talk about capture, we no longer refer only to digitalization and optical character recognition (OCR). What customers currently want is for the capture system to scan any content, extract information, and move it to the correct system without human intervention.

To do this, OpenText has a multi-tool solution of which we were already knowledgeable and have great experience, OpenText Capture.

In the case of unstructured documents, it is where the potential of the OpenText Magellan software and artificial intelligence is exploited.

Artificial intelligence software eliminates the need for manual big data processing by presenting valuable business information in an accessible way and related to the most critical objectives of the organization.

December 13

We returned the next day for the second day, with a similar format. Registration and coffee upon arrival, giving way to the first exhibition of the day:

Info Archive

In the next session, they told us about the Info Archive, a tool that we already know and that is penetrating with firm step in the market to respond to business needs.

Companies are increasingly concerned about the costs of their infrastructures and the exponential growth of information, when in fact, 80% of the data that is stored is data that will not be modified (according to a Gartner study).

The primary use cases would be the confiscation of applications, the transition to the cloud, or the archiving of static documentation, ensuring regulatory and legal compliance, applying retention, and appropriate policies.

Again in the middle of the morning, we stopped half an hour from making a coffee break, where we take advantage of, among others, sharing doubts and concerns of our clients to OpenText, which as always they answered us with the best of smiles.

To finish these great days, we talked about AppWorks, platform with which CIM has already configured applications quickly and efficiently.

OpenText AppWorks

It provides a unique platform for process automation, case management, and the development of low code applications to automate complex business processes, allow better decision making, and improve the customer experience.

AppWorks allows us to build applications as if it were a cake. First, we develop a user interface with predesigned elements (lists, templates, drop-down, etc.).

Next, we add functionality, taking advantage of the extensive predefined catalog (content, security, discussion, history …).

The business logic will come from the hand of the predefined rules or for more  complex cases of the use of BPM. Finally, we can integrate it with different content management systems (OpenText CORE, OpenText Documentum, OpenText Content Server …).

In summary, it has been a real pleasure to be able to attend the conference and internalize the news and OpenText strategies by the manufacturer.

Next year we will come back!
