New technologies have transformed music. Today almost everyone can create music from home. To start creating, you only need a computer and specific software. In the past, people who wanted to produce or record music needed to rent a recording studio and a team of professionals for many hours. This was too expensive and was not available for everyone. Nowadays, if you have a computer, you already have everything you need to get a greatest hit! In a few clicks you will have ready the central part of a home studio, known as a digital audio workstation or DAW (Digital Audio WorkStation).

Among the most popular DAWs for music creation and production are CUBASE, AppleLogic X Pro or Pro-Tools among others … Only with a PC and a DAW we can start creating music based on MIDI digital instruments (Music Instrument Digital Interface) or VST plugins (Virtual Studio Technology) but if we have some musical knowledge and want to record the sound of our favorite instrument or our own voice, we will also need a sound card or low-latency audio interface, it will allow us to connect microphones or musical instruments and record them on the workstation with very low latency and (almost) professional quality.


















Technology has also transformed the musical language. Traditionally, music was written on sheet music, but in the digital world the language of music is called MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). MIDI language allows computers and programs to understand the information that comes to them from peripherals such as a keyboard midi, a guitar pedalboard, etc… it is quite common to find a midi keyboard in almost all the home studios, that keyboard does not sound by itself, but with it, we can convert sounds into MIDI language: when we press a key a MIDI note is created, notes that will be played later (or in real-time) on the instrument we choose from our favorite sound bank, being able to choose from a grand piano, a string quartet or the most exotic instruments that you can imagine. In the same way, the MIDI editor of your DAW allows you to sequence the notes step by step and that makes the task of creating music much easier for people without previous musical knowledge. Of course, having musical training and culture will allow you to give better compositions, as long as the muses visit you… or maybe, as the genius said: A masterpiece consists of 1% inspiration and 99% transpiration… What do you think?

CIM at OpenText Innovation Day Madrid 2018: defining the digital future.


CIM ECM Engineering was involved as sponsor at OpenText Innovation Day Madrid 2018, where the Company showed their digital future vision, roadmap and their EIM platform incoming features.

General Session

At the main working session it was offered a valuable discussion handled by the Head of pre sales in Europe at Opentext regarding main factors as security, data privacy and new regulations to which this market is affected by:MiFID II and GDPR. During the session the digital platform roadmap (content suite, documentum, xEcm, InfoArchive and Experience), architecture and applications for the last 16.4 release was shown.

Thoroughout the explanation, the listener room was asked about the predominant platforms that they use to challenge their goals- most of them confirmed to use Documentum. However, only a few cases Content Suite was the solution chosen and hardly ever both of them or others.

As far as OpenText Documentum is concerned, new features were looking further as enhacement in DTCM (scalability &TCO, S3 storage), xCP (new brava visor as well as suitable integration with Courier) and in D2 (D2 Mobile SaaS and improvements related to content imports).

There was also an special mention about xECM conectors for :SAP, SuccessFActos, Oracle, Sharepoint,Salesforce, Process Suite and those new specially designed for Engineering and Goverment.

Eventhough, it was a great chance to assist to demonstrations and practical succesfull cases seminars regarding xECM, Exstream, Process Suite and Capital Projects Express and so on.

By the other hand, it was also exposed by our CEO -Carolina Izquierdo-, beside Raúl Martín, IT Manager at INITEC (Técnicas Reunidas Group), a successful OpenText E&E vertical solution applied experience and the way this tool –Capital Projects- helped them to meet their goals along an Argelia Gas Project for plan construction: This example summarizes some of the most important advantages that are supported by this content management tool.

Agile methodology, communication and technological bussiness expertise in E&E have been some of the main facts leading to success in this Project -Carolina predicates-.

During the presentation the knowledge of E&E sector was evidenced, explaining how the inherent needs of this typology of EPC projects were solved: collaboration, distribution, tracing, revisions, life cycles …

To give a strategical step forward in this Project, it would be implemented OpenText Documentum for Assets Operations in order to rule document control and workflow automation for plan operation and maintenance.

Corporate Stand

We were also pleased in such an interesting meeting, at our corporative stand to attend to anyone who was interested in our solutions implementations. Undoubtedly, it was a great occasion to share points of view with other companies, trying to know the market claims and to work on your next needs, growing up beside you.

Anyway, it was a engaging workshop, a truly opportunity where suppliers, customers, colleages, ex colleages and friends were met.

Road to innovation through the PDCA cycle

Organizations are more aware of the relevance of the information that circulates during the company performance. Therefore, the information is considered one more asset, pursuing to improve the efficiency in the management of it. This is the goal of what is known as Enterprise Information Management #EIM

My first studies within the industrial organization, allowed me to know some methodologies aimed at the improvement of manufacturing processes. Philosophies such as the JIT “Just in time”, which allowed TOYOTA to build vehicles without waste, has allowed me to acquire some concepts, which today could perfectly apply to technological information management projects #EIM.

The way of approaching a layout design of the machines in a car manufacturing workshop is not very different, of diagramming some of the process with a BPM application for an insurance company.

Then I give you some references to the most important philosophies of the 50s and used the Japanese company to gain competitiveness, against the almighty American industry.

One of the tools that best results has given me when dealing with projects associated to information management, is the PDCA cycle or Deming cycle (Shewhart). In summary, the methodology consists of planning the project and the results to obtain “PLAN”, execute the project as planned “DO”, check the results “CHECK” and implement the necessary actions to undertake a new project “ACT”.

The exercise described above could be applied to any activity, from the programming of a function to cover a required functionality, the design of a web page, to a complex integration of applications.

My personal vision of Deming Cycle

I am going to tell you how much of my professional career in terms of information management # EIM could fit perfectly, with this interesting circle.

One of my first projects within the consultancy sector was to build some documentary processes for an engineering company. My experience was mainly within the “DO” phase and from a different perspective than the engineering company had. Later, I was able to participate in other phases, checking the results obtained “CHECK” and implementing new improvements “ACT”.
As time goes I had the opportunity to work directly from the engineering company and start new projects from the planning phase “PLAN” and incorporating the lessons learned during my stage as consultant. Understanding consultant and client difficulties upon undertaking the different phases, has allowed me to make more efficient each project, each cycle, achieving higher quality results and reaching innovation.

I remember the moment in which we replace the approval traditional system of documents by engineers on site, by a new mobility application. Everything was working correctly and we reached the defined objectives, but in one of the latest versions, a new need was detected, which stopped making the process efficient. The technicians waited to arrive at their offices to scan the signed documents, attach the photos they already got on their mobiles and upload everything to the document management system, where they proceeded to the approval. Thanks to the good work in the “Check” phase, collecting their suggestions through a mailbox and analyzing possible improvements, an important innovation could be addressed within the organization. Communications had improved in many of works in progress, mobile terminals had better resolutions, so it was time to tackle the documental mobility challenge.



Recently, I decided to leave the engineering company and go back to consulting sector. I choosed CIM because offers me the necessary flexibility, which together with the training and experience of its employees, allows me to grow and improve seeking that important leap, which is innovation.

As you can see, I have turned the PDCA tool into philosophy and without being able to be otherwise, I have used it to write this article, being this one, planned, written and reviewed a couple of times, before being published, with the purpose of that you It has been of interest.
